Over 1 Million Sustainable Actions Across NHS Trusts

We’re excited to share that Jump has reached a significant milestone with users within NHS Trusts recording over 1 million sustainable actions. This achievement underscores our commitment to fostering sustainable practices and supporting the NHS’s goal of becoming the world’s first net-zero national health service by 2040.

Partnering with NHS Trusts for a Greener Future

Collaborating with over 25 NHS Trusts, we have developed 300 unique actions tailored to encourage sustainable practices among healthcare staff. These initiatives have collectively saved an estimated 2 million kg of CO2e, contributing significantly to the NHS’s targets of reducing emissions by 80% between 2028 and 2032.

Enhancing Resilience and Public Health

Our efforts align with the NHS’s sustainability goals, enhancing the resilience of UK health services against climate challenges. Sustainable healthcare solutions not only contribute to environmental benefits but also offer economic advantages and improved public health outcomes by reducing high-emission practices and increasing energy efficiency.

A key component of our success is the active engagement of NHS staff. According to a report by the British Medical Journal, engaging healthcare workers in sustainability initiatives can lead to significant reductions in carbon emissions and operational costs. This engagement is essential for creating a culture of sustainability within the NHS, which can further enhance patient care and community health.

Moreover, the NHS Sustainable Development Unit highlights that sustainable practices in healthcare not only reduce environmental impact but also improve workplace wellbeing and productivity. By incorporating these practices, the NHS can achieve its sustainability goals while also fostering a healthier work environment for its staff.

Recognising the Efforts of NHS Staff

Stuart Lane, Sustainability and Carbon Manager at University Hospitals Dorset NHS, praised the programme:

“It is important for us to recognise the variety and complexity of services across trusts and departments, and that we promote activities that are appropriate and relevant to them. Jump enables us to meet that challenge, and to find synergies and opportunities for harmonisation. It has been a superb tool to help us work in close collaboration to meet the sustainability challenges across the Dorset NHS Partnership.”

Our CEO, Josh Cleall, also commented:

“Reaching over 1 million recorded actions is a testament to the dedication of NHS staff in embracing sustainability. Our partnership with NHS Trusts has been instrumental in achieving these significant environmental benefits, and we are committed to continuing this journey towards a more sustainable future.”
